VIDEO: At GOP Leadership Conference, Obama Impersonator Tells Racist Jokes; Audience Laughs

The nation’s GOP elite gathered in New Orleans this weekend for the Republican Leadership Conference. In attendance were presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and potential candidate Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Prior to a speech by RNC Chair Reince Preibus, an Obama impersonator took the stage and told a series of racist jokes.

It makes me throw up a little in my mouth. It’s hard to stomach that a black man would Uncle Tom himself to make people who really don’t give a shit about black people happy. It’s really unfortunate he couldn’t do some tap dancing or sing some Uncle Remus songs. (Or even just wear a butler’s uniform.)

Brown pulled few punches when taking aim at the GOP field either. He suggested front-runner Mitt Romney, a Mormon, had multiple wives. Tim Pawlenty’s absence, Brown said, came because the former Minnesota governor was undergoing a medical procedure to remove his foot from his mouth, and one to implant a new spine. Newt Gingrich’s “consultants are dropping faster than Anthony Weiner’s pants in an AOL chat room,” he said.
Meanwhile, CNN’s John King gave Pawlenty the opportunity to take a swing at Romney’s health care plan that was “softer than Barney Frank’s backside,” Brown joked.

An uneasy mixture of laughter and groans gave way to boos when Brown began insulting Republican candidates. When he began taking aim at Rep. Michele Bachmann, event organizers cut his microphone and brought up music; a Louisiana Republican Party official came on stage to escort him off, apparently well before Brown’s set was complete.

The Louisiana Republican Party had hired Brown for a video in which he sits in a fake Oval Office pledging to serve as chairman of the GOP’s voter registration drive. But hiring an Obama impersonator is dangerous, not least because of the racial element it brings.

Louisiana Republican Party chairman Roger Villerie refused to discuss the decision to bring in the impersonator, or whether the jokes were appropriate for this venue. He did say, though, that he made the decision to pull Brown off the stage.

This is the same guy who impersonates the President on FNC’s Huckabee and FBN’s Stossel, singing songs and engaging in mock debates against GOP primary candidates.

Obama impersonator crosses the line at RLC

Brown didn’t just limit his jokes to Obama, though. He also mocked Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith, ridiculed Newt Gingrich’s faltering campaign and suggested Tim Pawlenty needed a spinal transplant.

As Brown was preparing to make a Michele Bachmann joke, one of the conference’s officials came out to the lectern and told the comedian to leave the stage.

They pulled him off stage for making fun of Republicans. I’d love to see the complete video but I’m starting to think it was a pretty brave thing for that comedian to do in front of that crowd.

I was honestly pleasantly surprised, based on the headline, to see that the GOP hadn’t invited a white dude who impersonated Obama via blackface. Seriously, I halfway expected that. That’s how much my opinion of these people has degenerated in the last few years.

The humor wasn’t that bad as the description alluded either. It’s probably a little disturbing that the audience laughed so hard at some of the “Black History Month” jokes but it could’ve been worse.
